Surah As-Saaffaat
اَلصّٰٓفّٰت
182 Ayaat مکیۃ
37:0
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
By those who range themselves in ranks,
And so are strong in repelling (evil),
And thus proclaim the Message (of Allah)!
رَبُّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ وَ مَا بَیْنَهُمَا وَ رَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِؕ(۵)
The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, and the Lord of the Easts.
Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun!
اِنَّا زَیَّنَّا السَّمَآءَ الدُّنْیَا بِزِیْنَةِ ﹰالْكَوَاكِبِۙ(۶)
He decked the nearest heavens with ornaments of stars,
We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,-
(For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits,
لَا یَسَّمَّعُوْنَ اِلَى الْمَلَاِ الْاَعْلٰى وَ یُقْذَفُوْنَ مِنْ كُلِّ جَانِبٍۗۖ(۸)
So that they are not able to listen to the angels of higher (echelons), and are pelted from all sides
(So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side,
دُحُوْرًا وَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَّاصِبٌۙ(۹)
And kept far away. There is perpetual punishment for them,
Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty,
اِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَاَتْبَعَهٗ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ(۱۰)
Except those who eavesdrop and are pursued by a shooting flame.
Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness.
فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ اَهُمْ اَشَدُّ خَلْقًا اَمْ مَّنْ خَلَقْنَاؕ-اِنَّا خَلَقْنٰهُمْ مِّنْ طِیْنٍ لَّازِبٍ(۱۱)
So ask them if they are more difficult to create, or the rest We have created? Indeed (man) We created from fermented clay.
Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay!
Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule,
And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,-
And, when they see a Sign, turn it to mockery,
And say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery!
ءَاِذَا مِتْنَا وَ كُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّ عِظَامًا ءَاِنَّا لَمَبْعُوْثُوْنَۙ(۱۶)
When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, how can we be raised again,
"What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again)
Say thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)."
فَاِنَّمَا هِیَ زَجْرَةٌ وَّاحِدَةٌ فَاِذَا هُمْ یَنْظُرُوْنَ(۱۹)
There will only be a single jerk, and they will gape,
Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see!
وَ قَالُوْا یٰوَیْلَنَا هٰذَا یَوْمُ الدِّیْنِ(۲۰)
And say: "Ah woe! This is the Day of Reckoning."
They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!"
هٰذَا یَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِیْ كُنْتُمْ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ۠(۲۱)
"(Yes,) this is the Day of Judgement you had called a lie."
(A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied!"
اُحْشُرُوا الَّذِیْنَ ظَلَمُوْا وَ اَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَ مَا كَانُوْا یَعْبُدُوْنَۙ(۲۲)
Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped
"Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped-
مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ فَاهْدُوْهُمْ اِلٰى صِرَاطِ الْجَحِیْمِ(۲۳)
Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell,
"Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire!
"But stop them, for they must be asked:
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُوْنَ(۲۵)
"What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?"
"'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'"
Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment);
وَ اَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلٰى بَعْضٍ یَّتَسَآءَلُوْنَ(۲۷)
And some of them will confront the others,
And they will turn to one another, and question one another.
قَالُوْۤا اِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَاْتُوْنَنَا عَنِ الْیَمِیْنِ(۲۸)
Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us."
They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!"
قَالُوْا بَلْ لَّمْ تَكُوْنُوْا مُؤْمِنِیْنَۚ(۲۹)
They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe.
They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith!
وَ مَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَیْكُمْ مِّنْ سُلْطٰنٍۚ-بَلْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا طٰغِیْنَ(۳۰)
We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious.
"Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion!
فَحَقَّ عَلَیْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَاۤ ﳓ اِنَّا لَذَآىٕقُوْنَ(۳۱)
The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment),
"So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins).
فَاَغْوَیْنٰكُمْ اِنَّا كُنَّا غٰوِیْنَ(۳۲)
For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray."
"We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray."
فَاِنَّهُمْ یَوْمَىٕذٍ فِی الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُوْنَ(۳۳)
So, they will become partners in punishment.
Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty.
Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners.
اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْۤا اِذَا قِیْلَ لَهُمْ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُۙ-یَسْتَكْبِرُوْنَۙ(۳۵)
They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence,
For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride,
وَ یَقُوْلُوْنَ اَىٕنَّا لَتَارِكُوْۤا اٰلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُوْنٍؕ(۳۶)
And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?"
And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?"
بَلْ جَآءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَ صَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِیْنَ(۳۷)
Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers.
Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him).
Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;-
وَ مَا تُجْزَوْنَ اِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُوْنَۙ(۳۹)
And be rewarded but only for what you had done,
But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;-
