Surah Ash-Shu'araa
اَلشُّـعَرَاء
227 Ayaat مکیۃ
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ السَّحَرَةُ قَالُوْا لِفِرْعَوْنَ اَىٕنَّ لَنَا لَاَجْرًا اِنْ كُنَّا نَحْنُ الْغٰلِبِیْنَ(۴۱)
When the magicians arrived, they said to the Pharaoh: "Is there a reward for us if we are victorious?" --
Then, when the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, 'Shall we indeed have a wage, if we should be the victors?'
قَالَ نَعَمْ وَ اِنَّكُمْ اِذًا لَّمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِیْنَ(۴۲)
"Yes," he replied. "You ´will be among the honoured."
He said, 'Yes indeed; and you shall then be among the near-stationed.'
قَالَ لَهُمْ مُّوْسٰۤى اَلْقُوْا مَاۤ اَنْتُمْ مُّلْقُوْنَ(۴۳)
Moses said to them: "Cast what you have to cast."
Moses said to them, 'Cast you down what you will cast.'
فَاَلْقَوْا حِبَالَهُمْ وَ عِصِیَّهُمْ وَ قَالُوْا بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ اِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْغٰلِبُوْنَ(۴۴)
So they cast their ropes and rods, and said: "By the glory of Pharaoh, we shall be victorious."
So they cast their ropes and their staffs, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh we shall be the victors.'
فَاَلْقٰى مُوْسٰى عَصَاهُ فَاِذَا هِیَ تَلْقَفُ مَا یَاْفِكُوْنَۚۖ(۴۵)
Then Moses threw down his staff, and lo, it swallowed up their conjurations.
Then Moses cast his staff and lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention;
so the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves.
قَالُوْۤا اٰمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَۙ(۴۷)
And said: "We (affirm and) believe in the Lord of all the worlds,
They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being,
قَالَ اٰمَنْتُمْ لَهٗ قَبْلَ اَنْ اٰذَنَ لَكُمْۚ-اِنَّهٗ لَكَبِیْرُكُمُ الَّذِیْ عَلَّمَكُمُ السِّحْرَۚ-فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُوْنَ۬ؕ-لَاُقَطِّعَنَّ اَیْدِیَكُمْ وَ اَرْجُلَكُمْ مِّنْ خِلَافٍ وَّ لَاُوصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ اَجْمَعِیْنَۚ(۴۹)
Said (the Pharaoh): "You have come to believe in him before I gave you leave. He is surely your chief, who taught you magic. You will soon come to know: I will have your hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, and have every one of you crucified."
Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed him before I gave you leave. Why, he is the chief of you, the same that taught you sorcery; now you shall know! I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.'
قَالُوْا لَا ضَیْرَ٘-اِنَّاۤ اِلٰى رَبِّنَا مُنْقَلِبُوْنَۚ(۵۰)
They said: "There will be no harm. We shall return to our Lord.
They said, 'There is no harm; surely unto our Lord we are turning.
اِنَّا نَطْمَعُ اَنْ یَّغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطٰیٰنَاۤ اَنْ كُنَّاۤ اَوَّلَ الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَؕ۠(۵۱)
We certainly hope our Lord will forgive our sins as we are the first to believe."
We are eager that our Lord should forgive us our offences, for that we are the first of the believers.'
وَ اَوْحَیْنَاۤ اِلٰى مُوْسٰۤى اَنْ اَسْرِ بِعِبَادِیْۤ اِنَّكُمْ مُّتَّبَعُوْنَ(۵۲)
We said to Moses: "Travel by night with My creatures. You will surely be pursued."
Also We revealed unto Moses, 'Go with My servants by night; surely you will be followed.'
فَاَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِی الْمَدَآىٕنِ حٰشِرِیْنَۚ(۵۳)
Then the Pharaoh sent announcers to the cities,
Then Pharaoh sent among the cities musterers:
اِنَّ هٰۤؤُلَآءِ لَشِرْذِمَةٌ قَلِیْلُوْنَۙ(۵۴)
(Proclaiming): "Surely they are a small band (of fugitives).
'Behold, these are a small troop,
and indeed they are enraging us;
and we are a host on our guard.'
فَاَخْرَجْنٰهُمْ مِّنْ جَنّٰتٍ وَّ عُیُوْنٍۙ(۵۷)
So We made them leave the gardens and springs of water,
So We expelled them from gardens and fountains,
and treasures and a noble station;
كَذٰلِكَؕ-وَ اَوْرَثْنٰهَا بَنِیْۤ اِسْرَآءِیْلَؕ(۵۹)
Thus it was; and We made the children of Israel possess them.
even so, and We bequeathed them upon the Children of Israel.
Then they followed them at the sunrise;
فَلَمَّا تَرَآءَ الْجَمْعٰنِ قَالَ اَصْحٰبُ مُوْسٰۤى اِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُوْنَۚ(۶۱)
When the two forces drew within seeing distance of each other, the people of Moses said: "We shall certainly be overtaken."
and, when the two hosts sighted each other, the companions of Moses said, 'We are overtaken!'
قَالَ كَلَّاۚ-اِنَّ مَعِیَ رَبِّیْ سَیَهْدِیْنِ(۶۲)
Moses replied: "By no means. My Lord is with me. He will show me the way."
Said he, 'No indeed; surely my Lord is with me; He will guide me.'
فَاَوْحَیْنَاۤ اِلٰى مُوْسٰۤى اَنِ اضْرِبْ بِّعَصَاكَ الْبَحْرَؕ-فَانْفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍ كَالطَّوْدِ الْعَظِیْمِۚ(۶۳)
We commanded Moses: "Smite the sea with your staff." And it parted, and every parting was like a lofty mountain.
Then We revealed to Moses, 'Strike with thy staff the sea'; and it clave, and each part was as a mighty mount.
And there We brought the others on,
وَ اَنْجَیْنَا مُوْسٰى وَ مَنْ مَّعَهٗۤ اَجْمَعِیْنَۚ(۶۵)
We delivered Moses and every one with him,
and We delivered Moses and those with him all together;
اِنَّ فِیْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰیَةًؕ-وَ مَا كَانَ اَكْثَرُهُمْ مُّؤْمِنِیْنَ(۶۷)
Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe.
Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate.
And recite to them the tiding of Abraham
اِذْ قَالَ لِاَبِیْهِ وَ قَوْمِهٖ مَا تَعْبُدُوْنَ(۷۰)
When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?"
when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?'
قَالُوْا نَعْبُدُ اَصْنَامًا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عٰكِفِیْنَ(۷۱)
They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them."
They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them.
قَالَ هَلْ یَسْمَعُوْنَكُمْ اِذْ تَدْعُوْنَۙ(۷۲)
(Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them?
He said, 'Do they hear you when you call,
or do they profit you, or harm?'
قَالُوْا بَلْ وَجَدْنَاۤ اٰبَآءَنَا كَذٰلِكَ یَفْعَلُوْنَ(۷۴)
They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so."
They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.'
قَالَ اَفَرَءَیْتُمْ مَّا كُنْتُمْ تَعْبُدُوْنَۙ(۷۵)
He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping,
He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving,
you and your fathers, the elders?
فَاِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِّیْۤ اِلَّا رَبَّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَۙ(۷۷)
Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds
They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being
who created me, and Himself guides me,
and Himself gives me to eat and drink,
