101:0

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.

101:1

اَلْقَارِعَةُۙ(۱)

THE STARTLING CALAMITY.

101:2

مَا الْقَارِعَةُۚ(۲)

What is the startling calamity?

101:3

وَ مَاۤ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا الْقَارِعَةُؕ(۳)

How will you comprehend what the startling calamity is? --

101:4

یَوْمَ یَكُوْنُ النَّاسُ كَالْفَرَاشِ الْمَبْثُوْثِۙ(۴)

A Day on which human beings would be like so many scattered moths,

101:5

وَ تَكُوْنُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنْفُوْشِؕ(۵)

The mountains like the tufts of carded wool.

101:6

فَاَمَّا مَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِیْنُهٗۙ(۶)

Then he whose deeds shall weigh heavier in the scale

101:7

فَهُوَ فِیْ عِیْشَةٍ رَّاضِیَةٍؕ(۷)

Will have a tranquil life;

101:8

وَ اَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِیْنُهٗۙ(۸)

But he whose deeds are lighter in the balance

101:9

فَاُمُّهٗ هَاوِیَةٌؕ(۹)

Will have the Abyss for abode.

101:10

وَ مَاۤ اَدْرٰىكَ مَاهِیَهْؕ(۱۰)

How will you comprehend what that is?

101:11

نَارٌ حَامِیَةٌ۠(۱۱)

It is the scorching fire.
