اَلْقَلَم

52 Ayaat مکیۃ

68:0

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.

68:1

نٓ وَ الْقَلَمِ وَ مَا یَسْطُرُوْنَۙ(۱)

NUN. I CALL to witness the pen and what they inscribe,

68:2

مَاۤ اَنْتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُوْنٍۚ(۲)

You are not demented by the grace of your Lord.

68:3

وَ اِنَّ لَكَ لَاَجْرًا غَیْرَ مَمْنُوْنٍۚ(۳)

There is surely reward unending for you,

68:4

وَ اِنَّكَ لَعَلٰى خُلُقٍ عَظِیْمٍ(۴)

For you are verily born of sublime nature.

68:5

فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَ یُبْصِرُوْنَۙ(۵)

So you will see, and they will realise,

68:6

بِاَیِّكُمُ الْمَفْتُوْنُ(۶)

Who is distracted.

68:7

اِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ اَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِیْلِهٖ۪-وَ هُوَ اَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِیْنَ(۷)

Verily your Lord knows those who have gone astray from His path, and He knows those who are guided on the way.

68:8

فَلَا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِیْنَ(۸)

So do not comply with those who deny:

68:9

وَدُّوْا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَیُدْهِنُوْنَ(۹)

They only want that you should relent, so that they may come to terms.

68:10

وَ لَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِیْنٍۙ(۱۰)

Do not heed a contemptible swearer,

68:11

هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِیْمٍۙ(۱۱)

Or backbiter, calumniator, slanderer,

68:12

مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَیْرِ مُعْتَدٍ اَثِیْمٍۙ(۱۲)

Who hinders men from (doing) good, the transgressor, the iniquitous,

68:13

عُتُلٍّۭ بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ زَنِیْمٍۙ(۱۳)

Crude, and above all, mean and infamous,

68:14

اَنْ كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَّ بَنِیْنَؕ(۱۴)

Simply because he possesses wealth and children.

68:15

اِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَیْهِ اٰیٰتُنَا قَالَ اَسَاطِیْرُ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ(۱۵)

When you recite Our revelations to him, he says: "These are fables of long ago."

68:16

سَنَسِمُهٗ عَلَى الْخُرْطُوْمِ(۱۶)

We shall brand him on the muzzle.

68:17

اِنَّا بَلَوْنٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَاۤ اَصْحٰبَ الْجَنَّةِۚ-اِذْ اَقْسَمُوْا لَیَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِیْنَۙ(۱۷)

We have tried you as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed to gather the fruits in the morning

68:18

وَ لَا یَسْتَثْنُوْنَ(۱۸)

But did not add: "If God may please."

68:19

فَطَافَ عَلَیْهَا طَآىٕفٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّكَ وَ هُمْ نَآىٕمُوْنَ(۱۹)

Then a calamity from your Lord fell upon it, but they remained fast asleep.

68:20

فَاَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِیْمِۙ(۲۰)

So by the morning it seemed as though picked clean.

68:21

فَتَنَادَوْا مُصْبِحِیْنَۙ(۲۱)

At daybreak they called to each other:

68:22

اَنِ اغْدُوْا عَلٰى حَرْثِكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰرِمِیْنَ(۲۲)

"If you want to gather the fruits, let us go early to the plantation."

68:23

فَانْطَلَقُوْا وَ هُمْ یَتَخَافَتُوْنَۙ(۲۳)

So they departed, talking in low voices:

68:24

اَنْ لَّا یَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْیَوْمَ عَلَیْكُمْ مِّسْكِیْنٌۙ(۲۴)

"Let no needy person come to you within it today."

68:25

وَّ غَدَوْا عَلٰى حَرْدٍ قٰدِرِیْنَ(۲۵)

They left early in the morning bent on this purpose.

68:26

فَلَمَّا رَاَوْهَا قَالُوْۤا اِنَّا لَضَآلُّوْنَۙ(۲۶)

When they saw (and did not recognise it) they said: "Surely we have lost the way.

68:27

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُوْمُوْنَ(۲۷)

No. In fact we have been deprived of it."

68:28

قَالَ اَوْسَطُهُمْ اَلَمْ اَقُلْ لَّكُمْ لَوْ لَا تُسَبِّحُوْنَ(۲۸)

One who was temperate among them, said: "Did I not say: ´Why don´t you priase God?´"

68:29

قَالُوْا سُبْحٰنَ رَبِّنَاۤ اِنَّا كُنَّا ظٰلِمِیْنَ(۲۹)

"Glory to our Lord," they said; we were really in the wrong."

68:30

فَاَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلٰى بَعْضٍ یَّتَلَاوَمُوْنَ(۳۰)

Then they started blaming one another,

68:31

قَالُوْا یٰوَیْلَنَاۤ اِنَّا كُنَّا طٰغِیْنَ(۳۱)

Saying: "Alas the woe, we were iniquitous.

68:32

عَسٰى رَبُّنَاۤ اَنْ یُّبْدِلَنَا خَیْرًا مِّنْهَاۤ اِنَّاۤ اِلٰى رَبِّنَا رٰغِبُوْنَ(۳۲)

Maybe our Lord will give us better than this. We turn to our Lord in supplication."

68:33

كَذٰلِكَ الْعَذَابُؕ-وَ لَعَذَابُ الْاٰخِرَةِ اَكْبَرُۘ-لَوْ كَانُوْا یَعْلَمُوْنَ۠(۳۳)

Such is Our chastisement; and the punishment of the Hereafter will be greater, if only they knew!

68:34

اِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِیْنَ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنّٰتِ النَّعِیْمِ(۳۴)

For those who fear God there are pleasure gardens with their Lord.

68:35

اَفَنَجْعَلُ الْمُسْلِمِیْنَ كَالْمُجْرِمِیْنَؕ(۳۵)

Should We treat those who submit and obey in the same way as those who are culpable?

68:36

مَا لَكُمْٙ-كَیْفَ تَحْكُمُوْنَۚ(۳۶)

What has come upon you that you judge in such a wise?

68:37

اَمْ لَكُمْ كِتٰبٌ فِیْهِ تَدْرُسُوْنَۙ(۳۷)

Or have you a Book in which you read

68:38

اِنَّ لَكُمْ فِیْهِ لَمَا تَخَیَّرُوْنَۚ(۳۸)

That you can surely have whatever you choose?

68:39

اَمْ لَكُمْ اَیْمَانٌ عَلَیْنَا بَالِغَةٌ اِلٰى یَوْمِ الْقِیٰمَةِۙ-اِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُوْنَۚ(۳۹)

Or have you taken a binding promise from Us which would hold till the Day of Judgement, that you will get whatever you demand?

68:40

سَلْهُمْ اَیُّهُمْ بِذٰلِكَ زَعِیْمٌۚۛ(۴۰)

Ask them: "Which of you is able to vouch for this?"
