Surah Al-Mu'minun
اَلْمُؤْمِنُوْن
118 Ayaat مکیۃ
فَاَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّیْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنٰهُمْ غُثَآءًۚ-فَبُعْدًا لِّلْقَوْمِ الظّٰلِمِیْنَ(۴۱)
So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people!
Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong!
ثُمَّ اَنْشَاْنَا مِنْۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُوْنًا اٰخَرِیْنَؕ(۴۲)
Then after them We raised other generations.
Then We raised after them other generations.
مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ اُمَّةٍ اَجَلَهَا وَ مَا یَسْتَاْخِرُوْنَؕ(۴۳)
No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind.
No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it).
ثُمَّ اَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَاؕ-كُلَّمَا جَآءَ اُمَّةً رَّسُوْلُهَا كَذَّبُوْهُ فَاَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ بَعْضًا وَّ جَعَلْنٰهُمْ اَحَادِیْثَۚ-فَبُعْدًا لِّقَوْمٍ لَّا یُؤْمِنُوْنَ(۴۴)
Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe!
Then sent We our messengers in succession: every time there came to a people their messenger, they accused him of falsehood: so We made them follow each other (in punishment): We made them as a tale (that is told): So away with a people that will not believe!
ثُمَّ اَرْسَلْنَا مُوْسٰى وَ اَخَاهُ هٰرُوْنَ ﳔ بِاٰیٰتِنَا وَ سُلْطٰنٍ مُّبِیْنٍۙ(۴۵)
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear proofs
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron, with Our Signs and authority manifest,
اِلٰى فِرْعَوْنَ وَ مَلَاۡىٕهٖ فَاسْتَكْبَرُوْا وَ كَانُوْا قَوْمًا عَالِیْنَۚ(۴۶)
To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot,
To Pharaoh and his Chiefs: But these behaved insolently: they were an arrogant people.
فَقَالُوْۤا اَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَیْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَ قَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عٰبِدُوْنَۚ(۴۷)
And said: "Should we believe in two men like yourselves, whose people are our subjects?"
They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!"
فَكَذَّبُوْهُمَا فَكَانُوْا مِنَ الْمُهْلَكِیْنَ(۴۸)
Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed.
So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed.
وَ لَقَدْ اٰتَیْنَا مُوْسَى الْكِتٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمْ یَهْتَدُوْنَ(۴۹)
And We gave the Book to Moses so that they may be guided.
And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance.
وَ جَعَلْنَا ابْنَ مَرْیَمَ وَ اُمَّهٗۤ اٰیَةً وَّ اٰوَیْنٰهُمَاۤ اِلٰى رَبْوَةٍ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍ وَّ مَعِیْنٍ۠(۵۰)
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them shelter on an elevated ground, sequestered, watered by a spring.
And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs.
یٰۤاَیُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُوْا مِنَ الطَّیِّبٰتِ وَ اعْمَلُوْا صَالِحًاؕ-اِنِّیْ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ عَلِیْمٌؕ(۵۱)
O you apostles, eat things that are clean, and do things that are good. We are surely cognisant of what you do.
O ye messengers! enjoy (all) things good and pure, and work righteousness: for I am well-acquainted with (all) that ye do.
وَ اِنَّ هٰذِهٖۤ اُمَّتُكُمْ اُمَّةً وَّاحِدَةً وَّ اَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاتَّقُوْنِ(۵۲)
Verily this your order is one order, and I am your Lord, so fear Me.
And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other).
فَتَقَطَّعُوْۤا اَمْرَهُمْ بَیْنَهُمْ زُبُرًاؕ-كُلُّ حِزْبٍۭ بِمَا لَدَیْهِمْ فَرِحُوْنَ(۵۳)
But then they divided up their order into different creeds, each section rejoicing in what it had come to have.
But people have cut off their affair (of unity), between them, into sects: each party rejoices in that which is with itself.
But leave them in their confused ignorance for a time.
اَیَحْسَبُوْنَ اَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُمْ بِهٖ مِنْ مَّالٍ وَّ بَنِیْنَۙ(۵۵)
Do they think that by increasing their wealth and children
Do they think that because We have granted them abundance of wealth and sons,
نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِی الْخَیْرٰتِؕ-بَلْ لَّا یَشْعُرُوْنَ(۵۶)
We are hastening to reward them for good deeds? No. They do not comprehend.
We would hasten them on in every good? Nay, they do not understand.
اِنَّ الَّذِیْنَ هُمْ مِّنْ خَشْیَةِ رَبِّهِمْ مُّشْفِقُوْنَۙ(۵۷)
Surely those who live in awe of their Lord,
Verily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord;
وَ الَّذِیْنَ هُمْ بِاٰیٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ یُؤْمِنُوْنَۙ(۵۸)
Who believe in their Lord´s revelations,
Those who believe in the Signs of their Lord;
وَ الَّذِیْنَ هُمْ بِرَبِّهِمْ لَا یُشْرِكُوْنَۙ(۵۹)
Who do not associate any one with their Lord,
Those who join not (in worship) partners with their Lord;
وَ الَّذِیْنَ یُؤْتُوْنَ مَاۤ اٰتَوْا وَّ قُلُوْبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ اَنَّهُمْ اِلٰى رَبِّهِمْ رٰجِعُوْنَۙ(۶۰)
Who give whatsoever they give (in His way), and their hearts tremble with fear that they have to go back to their Lord,
And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;-
اُولٰٓىٕكَ یُسٰرِعُوْنَ فِی الْخَیْرٰتِ وَ هُمْ لَهَا سٰبِقُوْنَ(۶۱)
Are the ones who hasten to goodness and outpace the others.
It is these who hasten in every good work, and these who are foremost in them.
وَ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا اِلَّا وُسْعَهَا وَ لَدَیْنَا كِتٰبٌ یَّنْطِقُ بِالْحَقِّ وَ هُمْ لَا یُظْلَمُوْنَ(۶۲)
We do not burden a soul beyond capacity, for We have a record that tells the truth. No wrong will be done to any one.
On no soul do We place a burden greater than it can bear: before Us is a record which clearly shows the truth: they will never be wronged.
بَلْ قُلُوْبُهُمْ فِیْ غَمْرَةٍ مِّنْ هٰذَا وَ لَهُمْ اَعْمَالٌ مِّنْ دُوْنِ ذٰلِكَ هُمْ لَهَا عٰمِلُوْنَ(۶۳)
Yet their hearts are oblivious of this; and besides, they are busy with other things,
But their hearts are in confused ignorance of this; and there are, besides that, deeds of theirs, which they will (continue) to do,-
حَتّٰۤى اِذَاۤ اَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِیْهِمْ بِالْعَذَابِ اِذَا هُمْ یَجْــٴَـرُوْنَؕ(۶۴)
So that when We seize the affluent among them with affliction, they will begin to implore for help.
Until, when We seize in Punishment those of them who received the good things of this world, behold, they will groan in supplication!
لَا تَجْــٴَـرُوا الْیَوْمَ۫-اِنَّكُمْ مِّنَّا لَا تُنْصَرُوْنَ(۶۵)
"Do not supplicate for help today; you will not be rescued by Us;
(It will be said): "Groan not in supplication this day: for ye shall certainly not be helped by Us.
قَدْ كَانَتْ اٰیٰتِیْ تُتْلٰى عَلَیْكُمْ فَكُنْتُمْ عَلٰۤى اَعْقَابِكُمْ تَنْكِصُوْنَۙ(۶۶)
For when My revelations were read out to you, you turned back on your heels and fled
"My Signs used to be rehearsed to you, but ye used to turn back on your heels-
مُسْتَكْبِرِیْنَ ﳓ بِهٖ سٰمِرًا تَهْجُرُوْنَ(۶۷)
Insolently, treating them like tales told at night."
"In arrogance: talking nonsense about the (Qur'an), like one telling fables by night."
اَفَلَمْ یَدَّبَّرُوا الْقَوْلَ اَمْ جَآءَهُمْ مَّا لَمْ یَاْتِ اٰبَآءَهُمُ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ٘(۶۸)
Why did they not think over the message? Or has something come to them which had not come to their fathers?
Do they not ponder over the Word (of Allah), or has anything (new) come to them that did not come to their fathers of old?
اَمْ لَمْ یَعْرِفُوْا رَسُوْلَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهٗ مُنْكِرُوْنَ٘(۶۹)
Or did they not recognise their apostle, and rejected him?
Or do they not recognise their Messenger, that they deny him?
اَمْ یَقُوْلُوْنَ بِهٖ جِنَّةٌؕ-بَلْ جَآءَهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ وَ اَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كٰرِهُوْنَ(۷۰)
Or do they say that he is possessed? In fact, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them abhor the truth.
Or do they say, "He is possessed"? Nay, he has brought them the Truth, but most of them hate the Truth.
وَ لَوِ اتَّبَعَ الْحَقُّ اَهْوَآءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ السَّمٰوٰتُ وَ الْاَرْضُ وَ مَنْ فِیْهِنَّؕ-بَلْ اَتَیْنٰهُمْ بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِمْ مُّعْرِضُوْنَؕ(۷۱)
Had truth been subject to their whims the heavens and the earth and all those within them would have been depraved. In fact We had sent them their reminder, but they turned away from good advice.
If the Truth had been in accord with their desires, truly the heavens and the earth, and all beings therein would have been in confusion and corruption! Nay, We have sent them their admonition, but they turn away from their admonition.
اَمْ تَسْــٴَـلُهُمْ خَرْجًا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَیْرٌ ﳓ وَّ هُوَ خَیْرُ الرّٰزِقِیْنَ(۷۲)
Or do you ask of them any tribute? In that case the tribute of your Lord is better, for He is the best of providers.
Or is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance.
وَ اِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُوْهُمْ اِلٰى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِیْمٍ(۷۳)
You are surely calling them to the right path.
But verily thou callest them to the Straight Way;
وَ اِنَّ الَّذِیْنَ لَا یُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِالْاٰخِرَةِ عَنِ الصِّرَاطِ لَنٰكِبُوْنَ(۷۴)
But those who believe not in the Hereafter turn away from the straight path.
And verily those who believe not in the Hereafter are deviating from that Way.
وَ لَوْ رَحِمْنٰهُمْ وَ كَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِمْ مِّنْ ضُرٍّ لَّلَجُّوْا فِیْ طُغْیَانِهِمْ یَعْمَهُوْنَ(۷۵)
If We took compassion on them and removed the affliction they are in, they would only wander lost in confusion.
If We had mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, they would obstinately persist in their transgression, wandering in distraction to and fro.
وَ لَقَدْ اَخَذْنٰهُمْ بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوْا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَ مَا یَتَضَرَّعُوْنَ(۷۶)
We had seized them with the punishment, but they did not bow before their Lord nor turned to Him in humility,
We inflicted Punishment on them, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor do they submissively entreat (Him)!-
حَتّٰۤى اِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَیْهِمْ بَابًا ذَا عَذَابٍ شَدِیْدٍ اِذَا هُمْ فِیْهِ مُبْلِسُوْنَ۠(۷۷)
So that when at last We open up the gate of severe punishment on them they will be overwhelmed with despair.
Until We open on them a gate leading to a severe Punishment: then Lo! they will be plunged in despair therein!
وَ هُوَ الَّذِیْۤ اَنْشَاَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَ الْاَبْصَارَ وَ الْاَفْـٕدَةَؕ-قَلِیْلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُوْنَ(۷۸)
It is He who gave you hearing, sight, and hearts, but only few of you give thanks.
It is He Who has created for you (the faculties of) hearing, sight, feeling and understanding: little thanks it is ye give!
وَ هُوَ الَّذِیْ ذَرَاَكُمْ فِی الْاَرْضِ وَ اِلَیْهِ تُحْشَرُوْنَ(۷۹)
It is He who multiplied you on the earth, and it will be before Him that you will be gathered.
And He has multiplied you through the earth, and to Him shall ye be gathered back.
وَ هُوَ الَّذِیْ یُحْیٖ وَ یُمِیْتُ وَ لَهُ اخْتِلَافُ الَّیْلِ وَ النَّهَارِؕ-اَفَلَا تَعْقِلُوْنَ(۸۰)
It is He who gives you life and death, and His the alternation of night and day. Even then you do not understand,
It is He Who gives life and death, and to Him (is due) the alternation of Night and Day: will ye not then understand?
