اَلْغَاشِيَة

26 Ayaat مکیۃ

88:0

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

88:1

هَلْ اَتٰىكَ حَدِیْثُ الْغَاشِیَةِؕ(۱)

HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you?

Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)?

88:2

وُجُوْهٌ یَّوْمَىٕذٍ خَاشِعَةٌۙ(۲)

Many faces will be contrite on that day,

Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated,

88:3

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌۙ(۳)

Labouring, wearied out,

Labouring (hard), weary,-

88:4

تَصْلٰى نَارًا حَامِیَةًۙ(۴)

Burning in the scorching fire,

The while they enter the Blazing Fire,-

88:5

تُسْقٰى مِنْ عَیْنٍ اٰنِیَةٍؕ(۵)

Given water from the boiling spring to drink.

The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring,

88:6

لَیْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ اِلَّا مِنْ ضَرِیْعٍۙ(۶)

They will have no food except bitter thorn,

No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari'

88:7

لَّا یُسْمِنُ وَ لَا یُغْنِیْ مِنْ جُوْ عٍؕ(۷)

Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger.

Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.

88:8

وُجُوْهٌ یَّوْمَىٕذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌۙ(۸)

Many faces will be joyous on that day,

(Other) faces that Day will be joyful,

88:9

لِّسَعْیِهَا رَاضِیَةٌۙ(۹)

Well-pleased with their endeavour,

Pleased with their striving,-

88:10

فِیْ جَنَّةٍ عَالِیَةٍۙ(۱۰)

In the high empyrean,

In a Garden on high,

88:11

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِیْهَا لَاغِیَةًؕ(۱۱)

Never hearing idle talk.

Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity:

88:12

فِیْهَا عَیْنٌ جَارِیَةٌۘ(۱۲)

There is a stream of running water in it;

Therein will be a bubbling spring:

88:13

فِیْهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوْعَةٌۙ(۱۳)

And within it are couches placed on high,

Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high,

88:14

وَّ اَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوْعَةٌۙ(۱۴)

Goblets set,

Goblets placed (ready),

88:15

وَّ نَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوْفَةٌۙ(۱۵)

Cushions arranged,

And cushions set in rows,

88:16

وَّ زَرَابِیُّ مَبْثُوْثَةٌؕ(۱۶)

And rich carpets spread.

And rich carpets (all) spread out.

88:17

اَفَلَا یَنْظُرُوْنَ اِلَى الْاِبِلِ كَیْفَ خُلِقَتْٙ(۱۷)

Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed;

Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?-

88:18

وَ اِلَى السَّمَآءِ كَیْفَ رُفِعَتْٙ(۱۸)

And the heavens, how it was raised high;

And at the Sky, how it is raised high?-

88:19

وَ اِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَیْفَ نُصِبَتْٙ(۱۹)

And the mountains, how they were fixed;

And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?-

88:20

وَ اِلَى الْاَرْضِ كَیْفَ سُطِحَتْ(۲۰)

And the earth, how it was spread out?

And at the Earth, how it is spread out?

88:21

فَذَكِّرْ۫ؕ-اِنَّمَاۤ اَنْتَ مُذَكِّرٌؕ(۲۱)

Remind them; you are surely a reminder.

Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish.

88:22

لَسْتَ عَلَیْهِمْ بِمُصَۜیْطِرٍۙ(۲۲)

You are not a warden over them,

Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs.

88:23

اِلَّا مَنْ تَوَلّٰى وَ كَفَرَۙ(۲۳)

Other than him who turns his back and denies,

But if any turn away and reject Allah,-

88:24

فَیُعَذِّبُهُ اللّٰهُ الْعَذَابَ الْاَكْبَرَؕ(۲۴)

In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment.

Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment,

88:25

اِنَّ اِلَیْنَاۤ اِیَابَهُمْۙ(۲۵)

To Us is surely their returning;

For to Us will be their return;

88:26

ثُمَّ اِنَّ عَلَیْنَا حِسَابَهُمْ۠(۲۶)

Ours is surely then to reckon with them.

Then it will be for Us to call them to account.
