اَلْعَلَق

96:0

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

96:1

اِقْرَاْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِیْ خَلَقَۚ(۱)

READ IN THE name of your Lord who created,

Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-

96:2

خَلَقَ الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍۚ(۲)

Created man from an embryo;

Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:

96:3

اِقْرَاْ وَ رَبُّكَ الْاَكْرَمُۙ(۳)

Read, for your Lord is most beneficent,

Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-

96:4

الَّذِیْ عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِۙ(۴)

Who taught by the pen,

He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-

96:5

عَلَّمَ الْاِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ یَعْلَمْؕ(۵)

Taught man what he did not know.

Taught man that which he knew not.

96:6

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ الْاِنْسَانَ لَیَطْغٰۤىۙ(۶)

And yet, but yet man is rebellious,

Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds,

96:7

اَنْ رَّاٰهُ اسْتَغْنٰىؕ(۷)

For he thinks he is sufficient in himself.

In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.

96:8

اِنَّ اِلٰى رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعٰىؕ(۸)

Surely your returning is to your Lord.

Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).

96:9

اَرَءَیْتَ الَّذِیْ یَنْهٰىۙ(۹)

Have you seen him who restrains

Seest thou one who forbids-

96:10

عَبْدًا اِذَا صَلّٰىؕ(۱۰)

A votary when he turns to his devotions?

A votary when he (turns) to pray?

96:11

اَرَءَیْتَ اِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدٰۤىۙ(۱۱)

Have you thought, if he had been on guidance

Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-

96:12

اَوْ اَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوٰىؕ(۱۲)

Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)?

Or enjoins Righteousness?

96:13

اَرَءَیْتَ اِنْ كَذَّبَ وَ تَوَلّٰىؕ(۱۳)

Have you thought that if he denies and turns away,

Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?

96:14

اَلَمْ یَعْلَمْ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ یَرٰىؕ(۱۴)

Does he not know that God sees?

Knoweth he not that Allah doth see?

96:15

كَلَّا لَىٕنْ لَّمْ یَنْتَهِ ﳔ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِالنَّاصِیَةِۙ(۱۵)

And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock,

Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-

96:16

نَاصِیَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۚ(۱۶)

By the lying, the sinful forelock.

A lying, sinful forelock!

96:17

فَلْیَدْعُ نَادِیَهٗۙ(۱۷)

So let him call his associates,

Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):

96:18

سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِیَةَۙ(۱۸)

We shall call the guards of Hell.

We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!

96:19

كَلَّاؕ-لَا تُطِعْهُ وَ اسْجُدْ وَ اقْتَرِبْ۠۩(۱۹)

Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord).

Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)!
