Surah ad-Dukhan

اَلدُّخَان
59 Ayaat    مکیۃ


44:0
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
44:1
حٰمٓۚۛ(۱)
HA MIM.

Ha-Mim.
44:2
وَ الْكِتٰبِ الْمُبِیْنِۙۛ(۲)
The perspicuous Book is witness

By the Book that makes things clear;-
44:3
اِنَّاۤ اَنْزَلْنٰهُ فِیْ لَیْلَةٍ مُّبٰرَكَةٍ اِنَّا كُنَّا مُنْذِرِیْنَ(۳)
(That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn --

We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil).
44:4
فِیْهَا یُفْرَقُ كُلُّ اَمْرٍ حَكِیْمٍۙ(۴)
On which all affairs are sorted out and decided

In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom,
44:5
اَمْرًا مِّنْ عِنْدِنَاؕ-اِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِیْنَۚ(۵)
As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers),

By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations),
44:6
رَحْمَةً مِّنْ رَّبِّكَؕ-اِنَّهٗ هُوَ السَّمِیْعُ الْعَلِیْمُۙ(۶)
A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing,

As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things);
44:7
رَبِّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ وَ مَا بَیْنَهُمَاۘ-اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّوْقِنِیْنَ(۷)
The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe.

The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith.
44:8
لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ یُحْیٖ وَ یُمِیْتُؕ-رَبُّكُمْ وَ رَبُّ اٰبَآىٕكُمُ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ(۸)
There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old.

There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors.
44:9
بَلْ هُمْ فِیْ شَكٍّ یَّلْعَبُوْنَ(۹)
Yet they are lost in doubt and play.

Yet they play about in doubt.
44:10
فَارْتَقِبْ یَوْمَ تَاْتِی السَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِیْنٍۙ(۱۰)
So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke,

Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible,
44:11
یَّغْشَى النَّاسَؕ-هٰذَا عَذَابٌ اَلِیْمٌ(۱۱)
Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction.

Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous.
44:12
رَبَّنَا اكْشِفْ عَنَّا الْعَذَابَ اِنَّا مُؤْمِنُوْنَ(۱۲)
"O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe."

(They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!"
44:13
اَنّٰى لَهُمُ الذِّكْرٰى وَ قَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُوْلٌ مُّبِیْنٌۙ(۱۳)
How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them,

How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,-
44:14
ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَ قَالُوْا مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُوْنٌۘ(۱۴)
But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed."

Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!"
44:15
اِنَّا كَاشِفُوا الْعَذَابِ قَلِیْلًا اِنَّكُمْ عَآىٕدُوْنَۘ(۱۵)
If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds).

We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways).
44:16
یَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ الْبَطْشَةَ الْكُبْرٰىۚ-اِنَّا مُنْتَقِمُوْنَ(۱۶)
The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them.

One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution!
44:17
وَ لَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُوْلٌ كَرِیْمٌۙ(۱۷)
We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying):

We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable,
44:18
اَنْ اَدُّوْۤا اِلَیَّ عِبَادَ اللّٰهِؕ-اِنِّیْ لَكُمْ رَسُوْلٌ اَمِیْنٌۙ(۱۸)
"Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you.

Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust;
44:19
وَّ اَنْ لَّا تَعْلُوْا عَلَى اللّٰهِۚ-اِنِّیْۤ اٰتِیْكُمْ بِسُلْطٰنٍ مُّبِیْنٍۚ(۱۹)
Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority.

"And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest.
44:20
وَ اِنِّیْ عُذْتُ بِرَبِّیْ وَ رَبِّكُمْ اَنْ تَرْجُمُوْنِ٘(۲۰)
I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death.

"For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me.
44:21
وَ اِنْ لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوْا لِیْ فَاعْتَزِلُوْنِ(۲۱)
If you do not believe in me, leave me alone."

"If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me."
44:22
فَدَعَا رَبَّهٗۤ اَنَّ هٰۤؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُوْنَ(۲۲)
Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people."

(But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin."
44:23
فَاَسْرِ بِعِبَادِیْ لَیْلًا اِنَّكُمْ مُّتَّبَعُوْنَۙ(۲۳)
"Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued.

(The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued.
44:24
وَ اتْرُكِ الْبَحْرَ رَهْوًاؕ-اِنَّهُمْ جُنْدٌ مُّغْرَقُوْنَ(۲۴)
(Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned,"

"And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned."
44:25
كَمْ تَرَكُوْا مِنْ جَنّٰتٍ وَّ عُیُوْنٍۙ(۲۵)
How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind,

How many were the gardens and springs they left behind,
44:26
وَّ زُرُوْعٍ وَّ مَقَامٍ كَرِیْمٍۙ(۲۶)
And fields and stately mansions,

And corn-fields and noble buildings,
44:27
وَّ نَعْمَةٍ كَانُوْا فِیْهَا فٰكِهِیْنَۙ(۲۷)
And the comfort they enjoyed.

And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight!
44:28
كَذٰلِكَ- وَ اَوْرَثْنٰهَا قَوْمًا اٰخَرِیْنَ(۲۸)
Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people.

Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)!
44:29
فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَیْهِمُ السَّمَآءُ وَ الْاَرْضُ وَ مَا كَانُوْا مُنْظَرِیْنَ۠(۲۹)
Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite.

And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again).
44:30
وَ لَقَدْ نَجَّیْنَا بَنِیْۤ اِسْرَآءِیْلَ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْمُهِیْنِۙ(۳۰)
So We saved the children of Israel from degrading suffering

We did deliver aforetime the Children of Israel from humiliating Punishment,
44:31
مِنْ فِرْعَوْنَؕ-اِنَّهٗ كَانَ عَالِیًا مِّنَ الْمُسْرِفِیْنَ(۳۱)
They (had experienced) under the Pharaoh. He was certainly a tyrant, guilty of excess.

Inflicted by Pharaoh, for he was arrogant (even) among inordinate transgressors.
44:32
وَ لَقَدِ اخْتَرْنٰهُمْ عَلٰى عِلْمٍ عَلَى الْعٰلَمِیْنَۚ(۳۲)
And We exalted them over the other people knowingly,

And We chose them aforetime above the nations, knowingly,
44:33
وَ اٰتَیْنٰهُمْ مِّنَ الْاٰیٰتِ مَا فِیْهِ بَلٰٓؤٌا مُّبِیْنٌ(۳۳)
And sent them tokens to bring out the best in them.

And granted them Signs in which there was a manifest trial
44:34
اِنَّ هٰۤؤُلَآءِ لَیَقُوْلُوْنَۙ(۳۴)
Even then they say:

As to these (Quraish), they say forsooth:
44:35
اِنْ هِیَ اِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا الْاُوْلٰى وَ مَا نَحْنُ بِمُنْشَرِیْنَ(۳۵)
"There is no dying for us but once; and we shall not be raised again.

"There is nothing beyond our first death, and we shall not be raised again.
44:36
فَاْتُوْا بِاٰبَآىٕنَاۤ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِیْنَ(۳۶)
So bring our ancestors back, if you are truthful."

"Then bring (back) our forefathers, if what ye say is true!"
44:37
اَهُمْ خَیْرٌ اَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍۙ-وَّ الَّذِیْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْؕ-اَهْلَكْنٰهُمْ٘-اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا مُجْرِمِیْنَ(۳۷)
Are they better than the people of Tubba, and those who had lived before them, whom We destroyed as they were sinners?

What! Are they better than the people of Tubba and those who were before them? We destroyed them because they were guilty of sin.
44:38
وَ مَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الْاَرْضَ وَ مَا بَیْنَهُمَا لٰعِبِیْنَ(۳۸)
We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, out of play.

We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, merely in (idle) sport:
44:39
مَا خَلَقْنٰهُمَاۤ اِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَ لٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا یَعْلَمُوْنَ(۳۹)
We created them with definite purpose; but most of them do not understand.

We created them not except for just ends: but most of them do not understand.
44:40
اِنَّ یَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ مِیْقَاتُهُمْ اَجْمَعِیْنَۙ(۴۰)
The Day of Judgement is your promised day of meeting,

Verily the Day of sorting out is the time appointed for all of them,-
